Watford Star To Serve 4-Match Suspension After FA Reject Appeal

Watford have this afternoon confirmed that striker and captain Troy Deeney has been hit with a 4-match ban by the FA, after the club’s appeal against the red card he picked up at the weekend was unsuccessful.

The Hornets welcomed Huddersfield to Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon, with the hosts’ recent dip in form having continued, eventually culminating in a 4-1 hammering at the hands of the Terriers.

Adding further weight to a thoroughly miserable day for Marco Silva’s men was the red card shown by referee Michael Oliver to Troy Deeney, following the striker’s tackle from behind on Collin Quaner.

There has since been some debate regarding whether the sending off was justified or not, with Hornets boss Silva having revealed following the clash:

‘I spoke with him (Michael Oliver) andTroy spoke with the officials as well.’

‘I’ll tell you what he told me: he said he touched the ball. This is what he told me. I think the referee said it’s not whether you took the ball or not, it’s because of the speed.’

Watford, clearly feeling aggrieved by the decision, decided to lodge an official appeal against the automatic 3-match ban handed to their skipper.

However, as confirmed by the club this evening, the appeal has since been rejected by the FA, meaning Deeney will now have to sit out an additional fixture, on top of the previous 3:

⚽ |#watfordfchas learned from The Football Association that its appeal lodged against Troy Deeney’s red card on Saturday (Dec 16 v Huddersfield Town) has been unsuccessful.

Troy will therefore serve a four-match ban covering the games Dec 23, Dec 26, Dec 30 &Jan 2.
