The Nigeria Super Eagles may miss Victor Osimhen ahead of their crunch 2023 AFCON semifinal clash against South Africa, MySportDab reports.

An update from the Super Eagles camp, as shared from the team’s official X handle, reveals Victory Osimhen did not travel with the team from their original base in Abidjan to Bouate, where they will play the Bafana Bafana in the first semi-final match of the tournament.

As per the report, Victor Osimhen is grappling with abdominal discomfort, hence the decision to leave him out of the trip for a further examination by the team’s medical officer.

He will be expected to join the team this morning if he is cleared by the medical officer.

The report reads;

“Members of the team traveled from Abidjan to Bouaké today via a 10pm Air Cote D’Ivoire flight. Osimhen did not however make the trip as a result of an abdominal discomfort. Team medics confirmed that he has been placed under close watch with a member of the medical team staying behind in Abidjan with him. If cleared by tomorrow morning, he will join the rest of the squad before 5pm.”

Osimhen has one goal with two assists in all his five matches for the team in the tournament. Despite his dragging goal drought, he has been a standout player for the Super Eagles with an incredible work rate that has earned him a widespread acclaim throughout the tournament.

Ghana football legend Asamoah Gyan lauded the player for his passionate performance for the Super Eagles having played a great role in the Super Eagles’ sail through the group stages to the knockout of the tournament.

The Napoli sensation was expected to take the center stage again as the Super Eagles prepare to trade tackles with the Bafana Bafana in another rollercoaster AFCON clash.

Nigeria edged out Angola with a narrow 1-0 victory to reach the last four of the tournament while the Bafana Bafana saw off high-flying Cape Verde in the shoot-outs in the other quarterfinals.

The two teams will cross swords at the Bouate Stadium for a place in the final. They have met five times, drawing 3 times and winning one game apiece.
