Cameroon have qualified for round 16 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after a dramatic 3-2 victory over Gambia in Group C final game, MySportDab reports.

Having suffered from defeat against Senegal and drawing Guinea, the Indomitable Lions needed victory against the group’s weeping boys Gambia to seal qualification for the next round of the tournament.

It was a tricky tie between the two teams as the match kicked off. Both sides try to find the back of the net before the break all to no avail. The first half ended barren with Cameroon going to break a better side.

Nine minutes into the second half, the Indomitable Lions finally put Gambians to the sword. Ekmabi raced the African giants into the lead after a dominant display but Gambia clawed their charges back into the game, leveling the scores in the 72nd minute.

Against the run of play, Cameron were dealt a heavy blow when the Gambians came from behind to take the lead in five minutes before the end of regulation time. Facing the grim prospects of being ousted from the competition, the Indomitable Lions fought back immediately to level the scores two minutes later, thanks to an own goal by Gomez.

With three minutes left to the end of regulation, and the score tied at 2-2 draw, the match was set for an interesting finish. In the first minute of stoppage time, Cameroon took the lead again to make 3-2 and edge close to sealing the round 16 ticket.

Three minutes later, Gambia fought back to drown the Lions’ hope but luckily for the African giants the goal was ruled out with the scoreline returned to 3-2 instead of 3-3.

The match ended with the Indomitable Lions grabbing a late win to book their ticket for the next round of the tournament.
