Liverpool officially announced and unveiled Jeremy Jacquet as a new signing after beating Premier League side, Chelsea to the defender’s signature.
The reds has officially finalized one of the most anticipated transfers of the summer, confirming the arrival of French defender from Stade Rennais.
The 20-year-old talent has put pen to paper on a five-year deal, with an option to extend his stay at Anfield for a further year.

This move marks a significant step in the club’s ongoing effort to build a younger, more dynamic squad under new head coach Andoni Iraola.
The transfer process for the France Under-21 international was far from straightforward. Liverpool originally secured an agreement with the Ligue 1 side back in January 2026.
However, the move hit a sudden hurdle shortly after the deal was announced when Jacquet suffered a serious shoulder injury.
This setback sidelined the youngster for the remainder of the French domestic season, requiring surgery and a focused rehabilitation program.
Despite the injury, Liverpool’s belief in the centre-back never wavered. The club maintained their interest, and following his successful recovery and a period of individual fitness training, the deal was formally ratified on July 1, 2026.
The deal package is valued at up to £60 million, consisting of an initial £55 million payment with an additional £5 million tied to performance-based clauses.
Jacquet, who spent his developmental years in the Rennes academy system, joins Liverpool as a highly regarded prospect.
Having already gained valuable experience in French top-flight football and on the international stage with France’s youth ranks, he is expected to transition into the Premier League as a serious contender for a starting spot.
His arrival is perfectly timed to bolster a central defensive unit undergoing change. With the departure of Ibrahima Konate to Real Madrid, and the ongoing need to manage the workload of experienced leaders like Virgil van Dijk, the acquisition of a versatile young defender like Jacquet is a strategic priority.
He will join a rotation that includes the club captain, Joe Gomez, and the promising Italian defender Giovanni Leoni, who is also returning to full fitness after an injury-plagued debut season.
For the young Frenchman, joining Liverpool is the realization of a major career goal. In his first comments since the move was made official, Jacquet expressed his deep admiration for the club’s history and facilities.
“I feel really good, the first impressions are good and I am very happy to start here.
“I am very happy. When I see the facilities, I can see myself there. I feel good here and I am very excited to get started.
“For me it’s a big dream, it’s a big club. A club like Liverpool, it’s a big dream for me.”

The timing of this announcement provides a massive boost to Andoni Iraola as he prepares for his first pre-season campaign at the helm.
With the administrative side of the transfer now complete, the coaching staff expects Jacquet to be fully integrated into group training immediately.
As Liverpool looks to challenge for silverware on multiple fronts in the 2026-27 season, the club hopes that Jacquet’s blends in well providing the defensive stability required at the highest level.
