Paul Pogba’s difficult return to top-level football has suffered another setback, with Monaco reportedly preparing to terminate the midfielder’s contract after just over a year at the club.
Pogba joined Monaco on a two-year deal in June 2025 after seeing his doping suspension reduced on appeal, hoping to rebuild his career and prove he could still compete at the highest level.
However, injuries have severely limited his involvement. The 33-year-old made only six appearances for Monaco last season and featured for just 45 minutes during pre-season this summer.
According to Nice Matin, Monaco’s management informed Pogba several weeks ago that they intended to end his contract and gave him permission to explore other opportunities.
The club is expected to negotiate a financial settlement covering the salary remaining on his contract, which was due to expire next summer.
Pogba’s latest setback appears to have accelerated that decision. After returning to full training last Friday, the former Manchester United and Juventus star suffered another injury during a small-sided training match on Tuesday.
The midfielder reportedly injured his left thigh and was scheduled to undergo an MRI scan to determine the extent of the problem.
The latest injury came after a right knee issue had already ruled him out of four pre-season friendlies. He had only recently returned to action after playing in Monaco’s 5-2 win over Saint-Priest on July 18.
Pogba is now facing an uncertain future, with reports suggesting he has been offered to clubs in Major League Soccer.
Once regarded as one of the finest midfielders in world football, the Frenchman must now decide whether another comeback is possible after another injury-plagued spell.
