Manchester United have crashed out of 2023/24 Champions League after suffering a home defeat to Bayern Munich, MySportDab reports.
The loss wrap up a dismal European campaign for the Red Devils as they finished bottom of Group A with just four points after all the group matches.
Manchester United were tipped by pundits to qualify from the group with Bayern Munich but stumbled to series’ of shock results from matchday one.
After a 4-3 opening loss to Bayern Munich, United stumbled to a shock home defeat to Galatasaray before managing a narrow 1-0 win over FC Copenhagen.
In reverse fixture against Copenhagen, they stumbled to a 4-3 defeat squandering their two-goal lead.
In matchday five clash against Galatasaray, it was a similar dismal outcome as they surrendered their two-goal lead again to settle for a 3-3 draw.
Following the draw, United had their Champions League fate off their hands – they needed a win against Bayern Munich but hope to count on Copenhagen and Galatasaray to share spoils before they could qualify to the next round of the competition.
Against Bayern Munich, it turned out to be another subpar performance by the Red Devils against the Bundesliga giants. While it was a game of few chances, Bayern Munich proved more dominant especially in the second half of the game.
United recorded their worst stats so far in the competition with just a shot on target.
The first half ended barren with both sides unable to find the back of the net but Bayern Munich came up clutch in the second half.
After a marathon of pressure Kingsley Coman’s 75th-minute strike separated the tie, giving Bayern Munich a deserved 1-0 lead.
The Bavarians were able to maintain the lead and bagged all three points at Old Trafford as United collapsed like a pack of cards.
With the defeat, the Red Devils have now crashed out of UEFA Champions League group stages while Bayern Munich and FC Copenhagen progress from the group to the next round of the tournament.
