World football governing body FIFA has proposed that clubs be given “temporary permission” to make five substitutions to ease the congested fixtures, MySportDab reports.

Almost all football leagues across the world have been suspended by the coronavirus pandemic.

The new proposal by UEFA could be implemented by competition organisers scheduled until the end of the 2021 season.

Speaking to BBC Sport, A Fifa spokesman said: “Everyone’s health comes first” and there’s nothing “worth risking human life for”.

“Football can only return when the health authorities and government official given permission that it is safe and won’t affect health services reaching the people.”

FIFA’s main priority remains the safety of fans, players and everyone across the world.

Another serious concern is that the high number of matches may cause potential injuries due to work over load.

“The new proposal will still have to be approved by the International Football Association Board (Ifab) and whether it is implemented remains unknown for the main time”.

MySportDab understands IFAB will likely approve FIFA’s proposal because it was already discussed as a key way to improve player welfare.

Once approved, FIFA’s new proposal would cover the rest of the current season and also the 2020/21 season.

This also applies to all international games until the end of 2021 and tournaments such as EURO 2020, postponed until June 2021.

Football Leagues are now stepping up preparations to return back and complete the 2019-20 season.
