Mauricio Pochettino Explains FA Cup Loss To Man City

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has explained why Chelsea lost the FA Cup semifinal to Manchester City at Wembley, MySportDab reports

Chelsea put up a more clinical performance against Manchester City at Wembley but lacked the attacking edge to put the Premier League and European champions to the sword.

The best chances of the game went to the London outfit. Nicolas Jackson kept fluffing his lines. Cole Palmer blew away a clearcut opportunity. Malo Gusto’s crosses from the flanks idle across the goal-mouth.

A series of missed chances saw the game end goalless in the first half as both sides failed to find the back of the net.

The second half was no different. It appeared it was destined to end barren as well before Bernardo Silva broke the deadlock six minutes before regulation time.

Kevin De Bruyne had made an attempt on goal, and Chelsea goalkeeper Petrovic flicked it off with his leg but the rebound fell on a platter for an unmarked Bernardo Silva, who fired it into the back of the net to give City the lead.

The goal was enough to separate the tie and end Chelsea’s silverware hopes this season with City qualifying for the final of the FA Cup for the third time in a row.

Speaking after the match, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino blamed the loss on the profligacy of his team in front of goals.

According to him, his side had a better game with the best of chances but failed to convert them, hence the loss.

“It is so easy to explain. We conceded in a moment you should not concede. We were not capable of being clinical in front of goal, we had many chances but we did not score.

“I think in the game we were a little bit better and deserved more, but it is not about deserving it, it is about being clinical and we were not today,” he said to the BBC.

The loss has blotted out Chelsea’s hope of a silverware this season. They are now with the fight to secure a European slot in the Premier League with six games left to wrap up the season.
