Manchester United knocked out Aston Villa to advance to the next round of the FA Cup through a 7th minute McTominay’s lone goal.
Ralf Rangnick made 5 changes to the XI that lost 1-0 to Wolves last week as Lindelof, Dalot, Rashford, Fred and Bruno Fernandes all start in the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo who has a muscle issue.
FIRST HALF REPORT
The home side took an early lead through McTominay, but that was about as much as United created in the second half.
Luke Shaw, Cavani and Fernandes have all had a go, but Martinez in the Villa goal has been equal to those efforts.
At the other end, Watkins has caused plenty of issues and even hit the crossbar, with McGinn and Ramsey going close.
McTominay puts the host ahead in the 7th minute with a fine header from a Fred’s cross.
Aston Villa could have equalized 3 minutes later but Ollie Watkins was too far from the ball as he could only hit the ball wide of the post.
Both teams created chances in the first 45 minutes but both keepers were on the top of their game as they kept the ball outside of their nets.
SECOND HALF REPORT
Aston Villa looked to equalize early on into the second half after Ings put in a close Ollie Watkins cross but the goal was disallowed after VAR intervention for offside.
The match got the heat on after this as both teams began to become more threatening Infront of goal.
Just 4 minutes after Ings disallowed goal, Watkins put another goal in after converting Ings pass but was later ruled out for offside.
Aston Villa were the better side through out the second half as they created more chances and had more possession of the ball but they could not convert any of their chances as Manchester United defense responded well.
Aston Villa looked to equalize late on after 6 minutes was added as extra time but Manchester United stood their ground. They will now play Middlesborough in the next round of the FA.
