Jamie Carragher Singles Out One Culprit in Liverpool’s Mauling By City!

Liverpool suffered their heaviest defeat this season, falling 3-0 to Manchester City on Sunday and their former player Jamie Carragher is not sparing the axe as he dissects the match, MySportDab reports.

Coming off the back of a statement Champions League round-4 victory over Real Madrid, one would have expected the Reds to drag it with domestic rivals City at Etihad on Sunday.

However, it turned out to be another in the bad books for the Reds under Arne Slot. From the start, City made it a difficult matchup for the visitors, dominating every aspect of the game.

Unceasing pressure from the hosts finally led to the Reds conceding a penalty and Erling Haaland squandered it.

Nevertheless, the Norwegian would amend for the miss in style a few minutes later, scoring a spectacular header from Matheus Nunes’ cross to finally race City into the lead.

Before the break, Liverpool thought they had found an equaliser after Virgil van Dijk headed home a corner kick into the bottom-right corner, but it was annulled after VAR review.

City then went on to dominate, scoring two more goals via Nico and Jeremy Doku to seal the victory. For Jamie Carragher, centre-back Ibrahima Konate was of disservice at the back for the Reds in the match and should be partly blamed for the defeat.

“I don’t understand what Konate is doing at the back. When Liverpool concede a goal, he is always the cause and he has always struggled to perform when playing at home,” he said.

While Carragher’s take is not without dispute, Konate’s mistake did lead to Haaland’s opener for City as he missed a good chance to clear Matheus Nunes’ cross leading to the goal.

Liverpool have now lost five of their 11 Premier League games and seven across all competitions. They sit eighth in the standings with 18 points – eight adrift of Arsenal at the top.

While it’s too early to rule them out, Arne Slot’s charges aren’t showing the drive and momentum of last season that help secure them the title.

They are literally dropping out of the mix of contenders for the coveted silverware with this dismal late run.
