Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has made a somewhat controversial admission on his future with the club after a disheartening Europa League final loss to domestic rivals Tottenham Hotspur, MySportDab reports.
Amorim, whose debut spell in the United dugout has been under clouds, had a chance to salvage a bit of prestige in a crumbling campaign last night, but Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur proved a tough nut to crack.
Notably, Amorim’s boys were the better side, dominating play and pushing the strings to find the back of the net, but it wasn’t just going their way.
Tottenham needed a scrambled first-half goal which deflected off Luke Shaw’s chest into the back of the net to secure victory.
It was another disappointing night for United in Bilbao, deepening what has been their most dreaded campaign in decades.
When asked about what he can tell United fans given his unyielding tactics so far, Amorim dropped a telling response, admitting he is open to leaving the club even without compensation should the fans lose faith in his process.
”I have nothing to show to the fans, so in this moment it is a little bit of faith (that is required),’ he said.
‘Let’s see (in the future). Like I said before, I am always open. If the board and fans feel that I am not the right guy, I will go in the next day without any conversation about compensation, but I will not quit,” he said.
Meanwhile, Man United have now lost four times in a row against Tottenham Hotspur and are now winless in their last seven meetings against the Londoners.
These dreary stats sum up what has been the team’s epic fall from grace long before Amorim came into the picture.
Additionally, it is understood a victory in Bilbao wouldn’t have only been significant for the Red Devils, but assuage the club’s dwindling financial fortunes as well with a Champions League slot on the line.
New co-owner Sir Jim Radcliffe and the United hierarchy will now have to return to the drawing board, thinking deeply on the way forward after this nightmare finish.
