Chelsea have sealed a deal with Borussia Dortmund for England U-21 international Jamie Gittens, MySportDab reports.
The Blues had been on the trail of the youngster since the beginning of the summer before the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup and were understood to be intent on securing a deal for him before the tournament.
However, they had a £42million first bid turned down by Borussia Dortmund before retreating to upgrade the bid.
According to Fabrizio Romano, agreement has now been reached with Borussia Dortmund for the player with the Blues willing to give up as much as £55million as transfer fee.
He is set for medicals having agreed a seven-year contract till 2032 and is expected to sign contract and be unveiled as a new name in the Blues’ fold.
However, it is understood that despite Chelsea finally securing a deal for the former Man City Academy star’s services, he will not be available to feature for the team in the ongoing 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
He is cup-tied and will be in action for Borussia Dortmund against Monterrey in the round of 16 of the tournament.
Notably, Jamie Gittens is Chelsea’s fifth signing this summer and the first winger in that batch. The Blues had signed Mamadou Sarr (center-back) from Strasbourg for €14million.
They had also signed young attacking midfielder Kendry Paez from Independiente for €10million. Defensive midfielder Darrio Essugo also joined from Sporting Lisbon for €22million and former Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap for €34million.
Gittens’ signing by the Blues marks the players return to the club. He had a spell with the club’s youth teams before switching to Reading, Manchester City, and then Borussia Dortmund Academies where he will subsequently began his senior career.
He has made 70 Bundesliga appearances for the Die Werkself, scoring 12 goals and has a goal in 11 appearances for England U-21.
