Atletico Madrid fans have staged an online protest after details of Ronaldo transfer plans and links to the club emerge, MySportDab reports.

Ronaldo has been linked with a move to the Spanish giants after he made his intention to leave the Red Devils known.

Ronaldo opted to leave Old Trafford due to a lack of Champions League football and has not joined United in their preseason tour.

The Portugal international cited family reasons for his inability to join the Red Devils. Still, it is apparent that it is part of his plan to leave after just one season.

Since he made public his intention to leave the club, some top European clubs have reportedly shown interest in the player.

Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes made it known that Ronaldo is ready to take a paycut to join any team to meet his aim of playing in the Champions League.

News of Ronaldo’s possible move to Atletico Madrid has been making the rounds.

Sources close to the 37-year-old disclosed that Ronaldo is trying to push for a move to Atletico Madrid.

However, a stumbling block to the deal is the problem of footing his wages and antagonising the La Liga Fairplay Rules.

Meanwhile, some Atletico Madrid fans have taken to their social media handles to oppose the transfer plan.

A fan wrote, “I will cancel my subscriptions if Ronaldo comes to Atleti. We cannot collect scum because were are not asylum.”

Another fan wrote, “every fan should reject Ronaldo. This is not just about Atleti.”

Another supporter went as far as saying Ronaldo does not represent anything Atleti, “he represents everything that is non-Atleti. He is a clown.”

Ronaldo wants to play Champions League football, but United only has a Europa League ticket.

He scored 24 goals last season for United, but the push was not enough to qualify the Red Devils for the Champions League.
