Manchester United have made an approach to sign Inter Milan Striker Lautaro Martinez and are closely monitoring his situation, MySportDab reports.

According to Spanish Newspaper Marca, The Red Devils met with Lautaro’s agent before the coronavirus break.

It is known that United are in the transfer market in search of a striker after Erling Braut Haaland signed for Borussia Dortmund in January.

Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to have enough funds to spend in the next transfer window with Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho top of his shortlist.

However, Manchester United Chief Ed Woodward has secretly been working on a deal to sign Martinez from Inter Milan.

Barcelona believe the 22-year-old is a perfect long-term replacement for ageing Striker Luis Suarez and they want the Lautaro to learn from Suarez before he retires.

The biggest problem is that Inter Milan want at least £100million for their player, and Barcelona may not enough funds to spend.

Over the past few years, Barcelona have spent on the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann, Philippe Coutinho and Frenkie De Jong.

MySportDab understands the Spanish club will need to sell some players to fund any deal for Lautaro Martinez.

Club finances have also been affected over the last few months while games were postponed because of the pandemic.

Real Madrid are also monitoring Martinez as a good alternative if they fail to sign Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland.
