Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio is set to stand trial after being accused of sharing a sexual video without consent, a court in Gran Canaria confirmed on Thursday, ,MySportDab Reports.
The case also involves three players from Real Madrid’s youth ranks, who are alleged to have recorded and distributed explicit footage of two young women — one of whom was underage — at a beach club in June 2023.
The court revealed that the prosecutor is seeking a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence for 22-year-old Asencio, charging him with two counts of privacy violations. Judicial documents allege that Asencio received the recording and later showed it to a friend.
The allegations come at a time when women’s rights and safeguarding remain highly sensitive issues in Spanish football, particularly following the scandal surrounding former Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales, who was forced to resign after his unwanted kiss of Jenni Hermoso during the 2023 Women’s World Cup celebrations.
One of the alleged victims has directly accused all four players, while the second has excluded Asencio from her complaint. Two of the accused youth players no longer play for Real Madrid.
Asencio, who was part of the club’s youth system at the time of the incident, has denied the charges, insisting in a May statement that he “did not engage in any behaviour that violated women’s rights to privacy or sexual freedom.” He maintained that his only alleged involvement was allowing another individual to briefly watch the footage.
Neither Asencio nor Real Madrid have responded publicly to the latest court announcement. The trial date is yet to be set, but the proceedings are expected to keep the spotlight firmly on Spanish football’s handling of off-field scandals.
