Viktor Gyokeres has finally let the cat out of the bag following a dragging transfer saga between him and his club Sporting Lisbon, MySportDab reports.
The top-rated forward is on the radar of top Premier League clubs interested in vying for his services this summer.
Manchester United and Arsenal are the leading contenders for now to secure his services but it appears a deal may not come through following a sullied relationship between the player and Sporting.
MySportDab understands Gyokeres has an €100million release clause on his Sporting contract and has three years left on his deal.
However, he reportedly had a gentleman agreement with the Portuguese giants to leave this summer on a sizeable transfer fee less than the release clause.
According to Portuguese outlets, the player is now angry with Sporting for reneging on the agreement as he prepares to take up a new challenge away from the club.
It is understood the club are still open to his departure below his €100million release but not the amount – €70million – that has been peddled by the player’s agent Hasan Centinkaya
The fallout between Gyokeres and Sporting came to the head on Wednesday when the club’s president Frederico Varandas blasted Centinkaya for blackmail.
According to Varandas, the club never agreed Gyokeres would leave for an amount less than €80million as claimed by his agent.
He also added that they have yet to entertain offers for the player and of course would not tolerate the false narrative espoused by Centinkaya.
Reacting to these strong allegations, Gyokeres took to social media to drop a cryptic post, stating he will speak when the time is right.
“There is a lot of talks at the moment, most of it false. I will speak when the time is right,” he wrote on his IG story.
Centinkaya has reportedly held talks with Arsenal for Gyokeres and Manchester United are equally considered favourites to sign the player due to the influence of Ruben Amorim.
However, it is yet unclear how this fallout could affect the player’s chances to moving this summer. United are reportedly ready to pay the purported €70million transfer fee with Sporting unlikely to settle for the offer due to this row.
