The DNA Is Gone: Mikel Obi Goes Nuclear On Chelsea’s Shambolic Direction

Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has come out again to publicly criticized those running the show at Stamford Bridge, claiming it is not working.

In a series of scathing assessments on The Obi One Podcast, the Champions League winner goes nuclear on the current hierarchy, claiming the club’s winning DNA has been systematically dismantled.

For Mikel, Chelsea’s current struggle isn’t merely a run of poor form, it is a fundamental identity crisis. During the Roman Abramovich era, Chelsea was defined by a ruthless, almost clinical obsession with silverware.

Mikel argues that this win-at-all-costs mentality, which was forged by icons like John Terry, Frank Lampard, and Didier Drogba, has been replaced by a shambolic and confusing long-term project.

Mikel’s frustration reached a boiling point following the club’s erratic managerial turnover and recruitment strategy which hasn’t worked out for them.

He highlighted a glaring lack of stability, arguing that the constant chopping and changing of both staff and playing personnel has created a leadership vacuum.

According to Mikel, the current recruitment policy focusing almost exclusively on young, unproven talent has left the locker room devoid of big personalities.

He believes the squad lacks the veteran presence required to hold teammates accountable, leading to a culture of inconsistency where players relax after a single victory rather than demanding sustained excellence.

The Chelsea legend made it clear that he knows many might feel anger towards him, but he said his criticisms is coming from a place of care for the club.

Mikel said: The club can get angry with me as much as they want, which I know they do, but I’m only saying it from a good place, because I care.

“If you love the club as much as you do, you should say something. The club is going in the wrong direction.

“I love this football club, it’s given me everything. I hope some of my ex-colleagues do the same.

“BlueCo don’t want anybody who represented the club during the Roman Abramovich era who built the club to what it is today. They don’t want those people involved.

“That’s the wrong thing to do, you need those people. The DNA is gone, i don’t recognise this Chelsea.

Mikel Obi is very concerned with how things are going with the club following another shocking loss to relegation threatened Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge.

His commentary serves as a stark reminder that while new owners can spend billions on talent, they cannot easily buy the intangible DNA that once made Chelsea the most feared team in Europe.
