Aston Villa ended a three-decade trophy drought by dismantling SC Freiburg 3-0 in the UEFA Europa League Final which took place in instanbul.

Unai Emery cemented his legacy as the master of this competition, securing his fifth personal title while guiding Villa to their first major continental silverware since the 1982 European Cup.

​The victory was witnessed by thousands of traveling supporters, including a jubilant Prince William, who watched his beloved side dominate a Freiburg team that, despite a fairytale run to the final.

The contest began with an electric atmosphere, as Freiburg fans brought their trademark energy to the Turkish capital. However, the German side’s optimism was met with a disciplined and ruthless Villa performance.

For much of the first 35 minutes, Freiburg held their own. Operating with a compact defensive shape, they restricted Villa’s space and forced Ollie Watkins into several difficult duels with Matthias Ginter.

Two goals in five minutes effectively took the wind out of Freiburg’s sails before the halftime whistle blew.

Freiburg manager Christian Streich attempted to revitalize his squad with a more aggressive high press in the second period, but Villa’s composure in possession remained unshakable.

The knockout blow arrived in the 57th minute.
​Morgan Rogers, who has enjoyed a breakout season in Europe, showcased his strength and speed on a rapid counter-attack.

After being played through by a precision ball from Buendía, Rogers shrugged off a challenge from Philipp Lienhart and slotted the ball past Noah Atubolu.

​Freiburg’s best chance for a consolation came through Igor Matanović, whose header was brilliantly tipped over the bar by Emiliano Martínez, ensuring a clean sheet for the World Cup winner.

There wasn’t anything much that happened as Aston Villa claimed a 3-0 victory which saw them lift the 2025/2026 Europa League title.

The victory marks Unai Emery’s fifth Europa League title, an unprecedented feat that highlights his tactical supremacy in knockout football.

Since arriving at Villa Park in 2022, Emery has transformed the club from relegation strugglers to European champions.

Emery said: “Aston Villa is an historic club… when I arrived here two and a half years ago, I knew this history.

“We achieved one very great objective we had during the season… We were mature in the difficult moments.

For Aston Villa, this victory provides the ultimate springboard as they prepare for a return to the UEFA Champions League next season.

For SC Freiburg, while the defeat is bitter, their journey to a first-ever European final remains a historic achievement that signifies their rising status in German football.

The celebrations in Birmingham are expected to last through the weekend, as the team returns home to parade the trophy through the streets of a city that has waited 30 years for this golden moment.

Aston Villa defeating Freiburg to win the Europa League title isn’t just one that favors them alone, but it provides more European spot for Premier League teams next season.
