Kamaru Usman delivered a reminder of his greatness on Saturday night, putting on a dominant performance to defeat Joaquin Buckley via unanimous decision in the main event of UFC Atlanta, MySportDab Reports.
The former UFC welterweight champion ended a three-fight losing streak with a clinical display of wrestling and ground control, securing his first victory in nearly four years.
From the opening round at State Farm Arena, Usman imposed his will, using takedowns and relentless pressure to keep Buckley pinned to the canvas.
He opened a cut early in the bout and never allowed the younger fighter to settle into a rhythm, showcasing his trademark dominance from top position.
Despite Buckley’s spirited effort in the final round, the damage had already been done. Judges scored the fight 49-46 across the board, as Usman reminded the division he remains a major threat.
“It feels good,” Usman said post-fight. “It’s been a while, I needed to get that monkey off my back. I know I’m still able to do this at the highest level. Sometimes when you’re going up against a young, hungry guy like that, very talented, very aggressive, you’ve got to pull out the skills and use the experience. That’s what I did tonight.”
Buckley, who came into the fight on a six-fight win streak, including a TKO victory over Colby Covington, found himself outmatched by the former champion’s control and experience.
For Usman, it’s a much-needed return to winning ways — and a strong statement to the welterweight division.
