Alonso’s standout campaign with Bayer Leverkusen in his second season with the club has made him a top target for Bayern Munich and Liverpool who are set to part ways with their managers at the end of the season.

According to reports, Bayern Munich have taken a step further in their move for Alonso by opening talks with the Bayer Leverkusen boss.

The Bavarians are hoping to poach the 42-year-old from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.

Bayern Munich’s advanced move to Xabi Alonso is coming amidst interest by Liverpool in signing Alonso as well.

With the Reds set to lose Jurgen Klopp in the summer, there have been concrete moves to replace the German tactician with Xabi Alonso.

As things stand, it will be a two-horse race between Liverpool and Bayern Munich for Xabi Alonso.

Sources close to the Bayer Leverkusen boss reveal he is keen on managing one of the former big clubs he played for should he exit his role with Bayer Leverkusen.

Alonso played for both Liverpool and Bayern Munich during his playing career winning domestic and European trophies. He is more likely to pit tent with any of the two clubs.

Meanwhile, his contract with Bayer Leverkusen was set to expire in 2026, having penned down a three-year contract with the club in 2023.

As per reports, his potential release by Bayer Leverkusen in the summer could cost interested clubs £13m to £21m.

Amidst reports linking him to a potential summer exit from the dugout at BayArena, Alonso has insisted he is focused on his job at Bayer Leverkusen, where he is chasing the club’s first Bundesliga title with a commanding 10-point lead on top of the Bundesliga table
