Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has announced his decision to step down as Barcelona manager, MySportDab reports.

In a strongly-worded and deviant tone, Xavi confirmed he will step down as Barcelona manager at the end of this season.

“I will leave Barcelona in June”.

“We have reached a point of no return. It’s time for change. As a Culé, I think that it’s time to leave”.

“I spoke with the board and the club today. I will leave on the 30th of June”.

The Spanish football legend’s decision came immediately after Barcelona suffered a shock La Liga home defeat to Villarreal at Estadio Olimpico.

After a 3-3 draw at regulation time, the La Liga champions conceded two quick stoppage-time goals to settle for a 5-3 defeat against Villarreal in a deep blow to Xavi’s prospects at the Cule’s dugout.

Xavi’s imminent departure was long envisaged by most Barcelona fans who had lost confidence on the Spaniard.

The former Barcelona player turned manager has been under intense pressure this season following Barcelona’s rustic campaign.

After leading Barcelona to La Liga title last season, it has been a stuttering campaign for the La Liga giants under the watch of Xavi.

They lost Super Cup trophy to arch-rivals Real Madrid, crashed out of Copa Del Rey, and have been ruled out of the La Liga title race this season.

With the club’s dismal run this season, the team has been literally ruled out of any possible silverware, hence the pressure on Xavi by fans to step down.

Confirming his decision to step down, Xavi aimed a subtle dig on the Spanish football press a constant criticisms which has weighted on his performance with the club.

Xavi had a year remaining on his contract. He signed a new contract extension with Barcelona until 2025 but will now step down with the club expected to scout for a new hand for the job.
