Jurgen Klopp has announced his decision to step down as Liverpool manager at the end of this season, MySportDab reports.

In a report carried by Liverpool’s website, the former Hoffenheim and Borussia Dortmund manager revealed he will exit the reins at Anfield on May 2024 when the season ends.

In an emotion-laddended tone, the 54-year-old said;

“I can understand that it’s a shock for a lot of people in this moment, when you hear it for the first time, but obviously I can explain it – or at least try to explain it.

“I love absolutely everything about this club, I love everything about the city, I love everything about our supporters, I love the team, I love the staff. I love everything. But that I still take this decision shows you that I am convinced it is the one I have to take.” [Check full statement on Liverpool website]

Liverpool have, as well, confirmed the decision of the German tactician to leave the club at the end of the season.

The Reds’ club statement confirmed Klopp has informed the club’s hierarchy of the decision and will be expected to leave when the current campaign ends.

The statement reads;

“Jürgen Klopp has announced his decision to step down as Liverpool manager at the end of the current season, having informed the club’s ownership of his wish to leave his position when the 2023-24 campaign comes to a close.”

Klopp has passed as one of the best managers in Liverpool history. Joining the club from Borussia Dortmund on October 8, 2015, Klopp returned Liverpool to a Premier League and European giant it was.

His most striking achievement was hitting the ground running at the Reds dugout as he took the team to two finals – Europa League and Champions League in his first two years.

Since returning the Reds to an elite Premier League and European club, Liverpool have missed out of Champions League only once, reaching the final twice, and winning it once.

They have also maintained a strong presence in English domestic competitions, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, and Community Shield.

Klopp’s decision comes more as a surprise as he is understood to have the backing of Liverpool hierarchy. The German has kept Liverpool in the front foot in all four competitions this season – the FA Cup, Europa League, EFL Cup, and Premier League.

Following his decision to part ways with the Merseyside club, top European clubs are expected to mill around the sensational manager at the end of the season.
