FIFA Approve New World Cup Format For 2026
FIFA have approved a new format in which the World Cup will be played at the next tournament, MySportDab reports.
The tournament is now looking to hit a new dimension which will allow more slot for more team’s to participate.
The FIFA World Cup is the biggest showpiece in football which is a one time event every four years.
With football developing so fast both for the male and female category, the governing body has also been working on allowing more team’s participate.
According to reports reaching us from the Athletic, they confirmed the new format which will take place from the 2026 tournament.

“The FIFA council are set to approve the new format of the 2026 World Cup.
- 48 teams (16 European)
- 16 host cities
- 12 groups of 4
- Top 2 qualify + 8 best third-placed teams
- Last 32 knock-out round
- 104 total games.
This move will also see more revenue pushed into the tournament which will also see some new faces making their way.
The slot for African team which is expected to be nine earlier, it will become more than that.
Preparations are yet to commence for the qualifying series which could begin as from next year 2024.
Argentina won the last FIFA World Cup which took place in Qatar in which they beat France in the final.
