Southampton beat Manchester City 2-0 in the EFL Carabao Cup to advance into the semifinals, MySportDab reports.
The Saints gave the Champions of England a shocker in the game which saw them making it over their opponent in the EFL Cup.
First Half Report
The first half was a shocker which saw Manchester City getting the biggest shock of the night all through the 45 minutes.
The game saw the Champions of England coming in with so much confident after tearing Chelsea apart in the Emirates FA Cup at the Ethihad.
Southampton scored the opening goal in the 23rd minutes through a lovely teamwork which saw Lyanco setting up Sekou Mara to make the scoreline 1-0 for the home side.
More minutes came in the game in which saw Manchester City failing to make something happen as the home side double their lead in the 28th minutes from Moussa Djenepo who made it 2-0.
Southampton maintained the 2-0 scoreline as they headed inside for the break making sure they gave their opponent no chance to operate.
Second Half Report
The second half of the game was more tactical as the Saints manager having to make sure his side were setup to defend so well.
Southampton continued to make life difficult for Pep Guardiola side who couldn’t manage a shot on target despite all their dominance as the game carried on.
Manchester City couldn’t make anything happen entering the 70th minutes mark and counting as the home side kept Erling Haaland silent with nothing good to offer.
The game was more cagey with more working coming from the home side who knew what was at stake and no chance of failing to be active for the remaining minutes.
Southampton made sure they hold things down until 90 minutes which saw them making into the EFL Cup next round with a 2-0 victory against Manchester City.
