Lionel Messi scored as Argentina advance into the semifinals beating Netherlands 3-4 via penalties, MySportDab reports.

First Half Report

The first half was cool and calm coming from both teams who had everything planned before stepping on the pitch for the quarterfinal clash.

The Netherlands did well enough in the early stages which saw them putting more effort in going forward and looking to make something happen which did not come.

Argentina were playing more of a team who attack and defend in number but also were not good enough to make anything happen from their end as it continued between the both of them.

The opening goal came in the 35th minute of the game from Nahuel Molina who was assisted by Lionel Messi as the scoreline turned 0-1 for the Argentines going forward.

The goal was the last action as the first half ended with Argentina taking a 0-1 advantage into the break against Netherlands after 45 minutes of football.

Second Half Report

The second half was a good one which had the South Americans getting the job done that was started in the first 45 minutes of the encounter.

Argentina were more relaxed in their composure knowing they have the lead and could just only had to make sure they kill off time and at the same time try to get another goal.

It wasn’t shaping out for the Netherlands who couldn’t find any way of breaking pasts their opponent who were to formidable for any error to happen as it Carried on forward.

Lionel Messi made it count in the 73rd minute of the match after scoring from the penalty spot which increased the scoreline to 0-2 as they pushed on forward.

Wout Weghorst pulled one goal back in the 83rd minute to give his side a fighting chance after incredible teamwork led to a wonderful finish which made it 1-2.

Wout Weghorst leveled things 2-2 with the last kick of the game which saw his side coming back and pushing the game to extra time for the night.

Extra Time Report

The extra time was one which had many highlights coming from both teams who came close to making something happen but at the end it all failed.

The extra time ended with no side taking the victory as they were forced to go and take on penalties which was where the score was settled.

Penalty Report

The penalties was an easy call as Virgil van Dijk lost the first one which didn’t go well with the remaining as they lost composure.
