Neymar reportedly waded into Dani Alves rape trial to have his sentence reduced, MySportDab reports.

Spanish prosecutors suggested a nine-year jail term for Dani Alves while the victim’s lawyer suggested a twelve-year jail term, as per Spanish outlets.

According to the Brazilian outlet, OUL, Neymar intervened heavily in Dani Alves’s trial helping mitigate a longer jail term for the player.

The report adds Neymar made a pre-payment of the £128,000 compensation fine which was slammed on Dani Alves by the judge.

Failure to pay the fine would have reportedly led to a longer sentence for Dani Alves as he had gone bankrupt during the trial.

Also, Neymar is said to have lent a top member of his legal team Gustavo Xisto to join Dani Alves’ legal team in his defense.

Neymar’s contributions and assistance is said to have made a difference as Dani Alves bagged a four-and-a-half-year sentence with a five-year parole, including a nine-and-a-half-year blockade from communicating with the victim.

According to Spanish reports, Dani Alves has already exhausted one year and two months of his sentence in Brians 2 prison where he was detained all through the trial.

He was arrested on January 2023 for allegedly raping a 23-year-old woman in the bathroom of a nightclub in Barcelona.

Dani Alves previously said he did not know the woman but twisted the narrative saying he had consensual sex with her when forensic evidence of the alleged assault emerged.

He pleaded not guilty but was convicted with his lawyer Ines Guardiola ready to appeal the judgement.
