Tottenham striker Richarlison was literally in tears as he celebrated with his entire family after he made Brazil’s 2022 World Cup squad, MySportDab reports.
Brazil is among the first set of countries to name their World Cup Squad ahead of the kick-off of the highly-anticipated football tournament.
After the squad was announced, there was a glaring and controversial omission from the squad, with Liverpool’s top star Roberto Firmino missing out.
Also out of the squad is Arsenal center-back Gabriel Magalhaes, who has been on prolific form for the resurgent Arsenal squad this season.
Meanwhile, Richarlison, who has not tasted action in recent games after sustaining an injury, has been picked by Scolari.
The inclusion of Richarlison and the exclusion of Roberto Firmino is somewhat surprising when the stats are compared.
Despite Liverpool’s poor start this season, Roberto Firmino has scored 6 goals in 9 matches for Liverpool, including five assists.
Richardson, on the other hand, has scored no goal for Tottenham in seven matches and has managed only two assists before being injured.
He is still nursing his injury, but Scolari has included him in the squad, hoping he will recover fully during the tournament.
After hearing his name mentioned in the final 26-man squad, Richalson and his family leaped in joy as they celebrated Richarlison’s first World Cup with the Brazil national team.
The full list of the 26-man squad features other key names such as Neymar of PSG, Antony, Fred, and Casemiro of Manchester United, Beuno Guimaraes of Newcastle, Marquinhos of PSG, and other top players.
Brazil is in Group G and will kick off its World Cup campaign against Serbia on November 24 before taking on Switzerland and Cameroun.
