Former Manchester United player Paul Scholes has now slammed summer signing Antony for showboating in the UEL match against Sheriff, MySportDab reports.

Antony did his usual 720-degree spin during their 3-0 win over Sheriff Tiraspol at Old Trafford and Scholes has now described him as ‘a clown’.

The Brazilian got criticised at he performed the trick with some space on the wing before carelessly putting the ball out of play after a poor pass.

He was later taken off by Ten Hag and the coach did not look exactly impressed with his behaviour.

Now, club legend Scholes has warned Antony that he ‘needs that knocking out of him’ to become a successful player at United.

Speaking on BT Sport, when asked if Ten Hag’s took Antony off because of the skill, Scholes said:

‘More or less. I might have had something to do with it. You saw his face on the bench. I think it did not go well with him. I just don’t know the reason. I love some showboating, and entertainment but get the pass right.

‘Does that skill help score goals? Does that make him better? I’d have to ask him, even at 4-0 up how does that help you?

‘I love to see skills and entertainment, but I don’t think this is a skill, it’s just being a clown.’

At Half-time of the match, the ex-United player added: ‘I don’t understand he’s thinking. It’s ridiculous. It’s showboating, and Ten Hag is shaking his head, which sums it up.

‘He’s not getting past his opponent, he’s not entertaining anyone, it’s 0-0 then plays the ball out. That’s the way, he did it many times at Ajax as well, but I think he needs that knocking out of him.’

After the game, Ten Hag was asked if Antony’s behaviour was why he substituted him.

He said: ‘The decision was already planned from the start.

‘If we score, I want Cristiano and Marcus Rashford up front together and that’s one of the reasons.

‘I thought Garnacho played very well on the left and he did some good dribbling. It was planned.’
