Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is not happy that Coach Xavi does not trust him for big matches this season, MySportDab reports.

There is now hope for some Premier League fans that Manchester United may be able to sign him in January.

MySportDab understands that the Red Devils have not given up hope of signing the Holland international, despite missing out in the summer.

United did everything possible during the majority of the transfer window trying to sign the former Ajax player for £64million, but they still failed.

De Jong has played 10 matches across all competitions this season for the Catalan giants, but the majority of those have been as a substitute.

He started on the bench for key Champions League matches against Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.

He did not start in LaLiga games against Sevilla, Rayo Vallecano and Celta Vigo as well.

According to Spanish Newspaper Sport, De Jong ‘disgusted’ by the way Xavi has treated him this season.

The 25-year-old thought he would have a ‘decisive’ role at Barcelona this season but has slipped down the pecking order.

Xavi no doubt already has his favourite midfield trio of midfielder Sergio Busquets, Pedri and Gavi.

The trio are again expected to play in El Clasico against Real Madrid on Sunday.

Xavi also does not trust De Jong to be the long-term successor for Sergio Busquets.

This is a major boost for United with De Jong now unhappy with his situation in Spain and now be more open to an Old Trafford transfer.

A few days ago, ESPN revealed that Erik Ten Hag has not given up despite the midfielder’s resistance not to leave the Spanish giants.

United signed Casemiro from Real Madrid but Ten Hag still plans to lure De Jong to Old Trafford and play them together.
