Bryce Maximus James is an American college basketball player and the youngest son of NBA legend LeBron James.
A former high school state champion at Sierra Canyon School in California, Bryce is now a freshman guard for the Arizona Wildcats, where head coach Tommy Lloyd made the deliberate decision to redshirt him during the 2025–26 season to preserve his eligibility and allow him more time to develop.
Despite not yet appearing in a game for Arizona, Bryce has already become a fan favorite, with Wildcats supporters chanting, “We want Bryce!” during games this season.

He was born on June 14, 2007, in Akron, Ohio. Bryce Maximus James is the second child and youngest son of LeBron James and Savannah James.
He has an older brother, Bronny James, who plays professionally in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers, and a younger sister, Zhuri James.
Bryce spent much of his early childhood in the Akron and Cleveland area before the family relocated multiple times as LeBron’s NBA career took them to Miami, back to Cleveland, and eventually to Los Angeles.
Bryce attended Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth, California, for all four years of high school.
During his early years there, he played alongside his brother Bronny while developing as a player largely outside his father’s direct shadow, despite the obvious attention that came with the family name.
Savannah James: Bryce’s Mother
Savannah Rachel James, born on August 27, 1986, in Akron, Ohio, to Jennifer and John Brinson, is a businesswoman and philanthropist.
She attended Buchtel High School in Akron, where she met LeBron James as a teenager, and the two began a relationship that has now spanned more than two decades.
Savannah and LeBron married on September 14, 2013, in a ceremony in San Diego, California. Savannah has built her own business ventures over the years, including launching the Home Court furniture collection with American Signature Furniture in 2018 and developing the Women of Our Future mentorship program, which supports young women.
She has also been involved in charitable work in the Akron community, including donating prom dresses to local high school seniors.
Savannah and LeBron have three children together: Bronny, Bryce, and Zhuri.
Career
Bryce Maximus James built a strong high school basketball career at Sierra Canyon, developing into a guard known for his outside shooting. As a senior during the 2024–25 season, he averaged 8 points and 4 rebounds per game.
He helped lead Sierra Canyon to the 2025 CIF State Division I championship, one of the top honors in California high school basketball.
Bryce also earned individual recognition on the national stage, being named MVP of the Spalding Hoophall Classic after scoring 16 points in just 17 minutes off the bench, while adding five rebounds and four steals in a victory over Grayson High School of Georgia.
He also competed on the Nike EYBL grassroots circuit with the Strive For Greatness program in 2024, averaging 6.9 points and 2.2 rebounds per game while shooting 36 percent from three-point range.
In June 2024, he was invited to a USA Basketball U17 national team training camp. He signed a name, image, and likeness (NIL) deal with Klutch Sports in December 2022.
College Recruitment and Career at Arizona
Bryce was a three-star recruit in the 2025 class, attracting interest from several major programs before narrowing his decision to Ohio State, Duquesne, and Arizona.
He ultimately committed to the University of Arizona, joining the Wildcats under head coach Tommy Lloyd for the 2025–26 season.
In November 2025, with Arizona fielding a Final Four-caliber roster loaded with returning talent, Lloyd confirmed that redshirting Bryce for the season was under serious consideration.
The decision was intended to preserve his four years of eligibility while allowing him to continue developing physically and adjust to the college game.
In February 2026, Lloyd officially confirmed that Bryce would redshirt for the entire 2025–26 season, meaning he did not appear in any regular-season or postseason games that year.
Lloyd described the decision as a long-term investment in Bryce’s development, noting that he had made significant progress adapting to the program’s system despite not seeing game action.
Despite his redshirt status, Arizona fans began chanting, “We want Bryce!” during games as the season progressed, reflecting genuine anticipation for his eventual on-court debut.
