Donna Kelce Biography

Donna Kelce

She was born on October 9, 1952, in Cleveland, Ohio. Donna Kelce grew up in a small house in downtown Cleveland, living below her grandparents. When Donna was 12, her mother died after a period of illness.

Her father remarried a woman named Mary, whom Donna has credited as a genuinely important part of her and her brother’s upbringing, saying in a New Heights podcast appearance that she does not think they would have made it without her.

Despite some initial family resistance to the idea, Donna competed in track and field throughout high school. She went on to Ohio University, becoming the first person in her family to graduate from college, earning a communications degree in 1974 with aspirations of going into radio or television.

She later added an MBA from Baldwin Wallace University, education that ultimately led her into a different field entirely.

Travis, Jason Kelce Mother

Donna met Ed Kelce at Fagan’s, a bar in Cleveland, in the late 1970s. She had actually been on her way to a date with a different man that night, a plan to see a play that never happened once Ed struck up a conversation with a pickup line that made her laugh.

The two ended up talking for hours, moving to a second bar as the night went on, and married not long after in the late 1970s.

They settled in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, where they raised their two sons, Jason, born 1987, and Travis, born 1989.

Before having children, Donna pursued an unexpected hobby, learning to fly a plane, an experience she has said she genuinely enjoyed but gave up once she decided to start a family, partly because of the cost.

Donna Kelce and Ed divorced after roughly 28 years of marriage, a split that came only once both of their sons were out of college and no longer living at home.

Donna has spoken directly about that decision, telling The Martha Stewart Podcast that she and Ed had recognized the marriage was not working for some time but made a deliberate, joint choice to stay together as a team while the boys were still in the house, waiting until after Jason and Travis had finished college to separate formally.

The two have maintained an amicable co-parenting relationship in the years since, both remaining regular, visible presences at their sons’ games.

Becoming a Public Figure

Donna Kelce’s public profile grew significantly after Jason and Travis both reached the NFL. It reached a new level entirely during the 2023 Super Bowl, when the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, Jason and Travis’s respective teams, met in the championship game, the first time brothers had ever played against each other in a Super Bowl.

Donna became a recognizable figure that week wearing a custom split jersey, half Eagles, half Chiefs, an image that circulated widely and helped cement her own celebrity status independent of her sons.

Her profile expanded again in 2023 when Travis began dating Taylor Swift, thrusting Donna into a spotlight she has said she never fully expected.

Speaking to TODAY, she described the experience candidly, saying she initially assumed the attention would be fleeting and told herself to lean into it and enjoy it before it passed, only to find that it kept growing instead, eventually describing the whole experience as feeling like an alternate universe, especially given that her own career was already over and she was retired.

Travis and Taylor became engaged in August 2025, a development that has made Donna Taylor Swift’s future mother-in-law. She has since become known for skillfully dodging questions about wedding details in interviews, telling TMZ in February 2026 that she had not needed to sign any nondisclosure agreement because those around her trust that she can keep a secret.

In 2024, Donna was named one of Glamour magazine’s Women of the Year, and used the recognition to speak candidly about motherhood, saying raising children who are totally dependent on you, while trying to do your best with limited resources, was the most daunting task she has ever faced, harder by far than simply going to work every day.

That same year, she made her acting debut in two Hallmark Channel football-themed films, Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story and Christmas on Call, both released in November 2024.

In early 2026, she took on an entirely new kind of spotlight, joining the cast of the fourth season of Peacock’s competition series The Traitors, announcing her casting on Instagram with the caption that she raised two playmakers, and now it was Mama’s turn.

Fellow contestant Dorinda Medley joked during the season that nobody would dare eliminate Donna given how fiercely Taylor Swift’s fanbase would respond.

Donna has also appeared on her daughter-in-law Kylie Kelce’s podcast, Not Gonna Lie, discussing her life and family in November 2025, and has become enough of a hometown figure that the Akron RubberDucks, a Cleveland Guardians minor league affiliate, gave away Donna Kelce bobbleheads to fans at a game that June.

Career

Donna Career

Donna built a 30-year career in banking, working in leadership roles that included Vice President at KeyBank and, later, Senior Vice President at Truist Financial, with reported specialization in commercial real estate financing during parts of that career.

She retired in 2021.

Jason and Travis Kelce’s Careers

Jason Kelce played high school football, hockey and lacrosse and also played baritone saxophone in his school band before being drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2011 NFL Draft.

He became a seven-time Pro Bowler and six-time All-Pro center, winning a Super Bowl with the Eagles following the 2017 season.

He retired after the 2023 season as one of the most decorated centers in franchise history.

Travis Kelce followed his brother to the University of Cincinnati, playing multiple sports before a suspension for violating team rules cost him a season.

He went on to become a nine-time Pro Bowler and won two Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2019 and 2023 seasons, and remains one of the most productive tight ends in NFL history.

Donna Kelce’s net worth is estimated at $500,000, tied to her 30-year banking career and retirement savings, though her actual current income has expanded through her Hallmark acting work, her Traitors appearance, and other media opportunities that came with her rising public profile, none of which has been separately quantified.

Her sons’ finances are far more substantial and well documented. Travis Kelce’s net worth is estimated at $200 million, and Jason Kelce’s net worth is estimated at $100 million dollars, both built from their NFL careers, endorsement deals, and media ventures including their New Heights podcast.
