Mariah and Giannis first met during the 2014 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, where Mariah was working as an intern and Giannis, then 19 years old, was attending the event.

Their first encounter did not immediately lead to a relationship. According to Giannis, he asked a friend to approach Mariah and request her phone number on his behalf, but she politely declined.

Giannis has since joked that he was extremely shy at the time and admitted he ‘had no game’ when it came to approaching her.

Despite that initial rejection, the two eventually connected. Giannis later recalled that once Mariah expressed interest in getting to know him better, he invited her to visit him in Miami, and he quickly realized she was the woman he wanted to marry.

The couple made their relationship public on Instagram in December 2016 and dated for several years before starting a family.

Giannis proposed to Mariah during a trip to Hawaii, surprising her with a beachfront proposal after telling her they were going out for dinner.

The couple welcomed their first child, Liam Charles, in February 2020, followed by their second son, Maverick Shai, in 2021, their daughter Eva Brooke in 2023, and their youngest daughter, Aria Capri, in 2025.

In September 2024, Giannis and Mariah married at the Costa Navarino resort in Greece during a three-day celebration attended by approximately 200 guests.

Those in attendance included LeBron James, Serena Williams, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and Bucks teammate Khris Middleton, who served as Giannis’s best man.

Giannis described the wedding as a celebration of a relationship that had already stood the test of time, surrounded by close family, friends, and many of his current and former Bucks teammates.

Mariah Riddlesprigger played four seasons of volleyball at Rice University as an outside hitter for the Rice Owls, compiling an accomplished collegiate career that stood on its own merits long before her public profile grew.

She recorded 193 kills during her freshman season alone, and as a sophomore she posted seven double-doubles. In her junior year, she ranked 17th in Conference USA in digs per set and recorded a season-high 18 digs against the University of Alabama.

On November 18, 2013, she was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week. She graduated in 2014 with a degree in Sports Management and Sociology, along with a minor in Business, and also served as a member of Rice University’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

The loungewear label was built around messages of positivity and self-empowerment, a vision she has said was inspired by her experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. The brand’s Instagram account had grown to more than 224,000 followers as of December 2025.

In 2022, Giannis and Mariah launched the Charles Antetokounmpo Family Foundation, named in honor of Giannis’s late father.

Mariah has described access to necessities such as diapers as something every child deserves.

She has now become an increasingly outspoken advocate for maternal and infant health, with a particular focus on addressing racial disparities in healthcare. She has spoken publicly about experiencing preeclampsia during her first pregnancy with Liam.

In October 2025, she also discussed her mental health struggles following childbirth, explaining that she chose to share her experience in the hope of helping other mothers facing similar challenges.

Mariah has also spoken candidly about the challenges of adjusting to public life as the partner of an NBA superstar.

In an interview with People, she said she initially struggled with the attention before finding a deeper sense of purpose through her philanthropic work and advocacy.
