Manchester United suffered a disappointing 3-2 defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford as the visitors produced a stunning comeback to reach the next round of the Carabao Cup.

The Red Devils looked to be in complete control after racing into a two-goal lead, but the Seagulls responded brilliantly to score three times and seal an impressive victory.

The result ended Michael Carrick’s cup run and left the home supporters frustrated after seeing their team throw away a strong position.

Manchester United made the perfect start to the match and opened the scoring in the 8th minute. Youngster Shea Lacey found the back of the net with a well-taken finish to give the hosts an early advantage.

The goal lifted the atmosphere inside Old Trafford as United looked confident from the opening stages with a 1-0 lead while the match carried on.

The home side continued to dominate and doubled their lead in the 10th minute of play. Mason Mount finished calmly to make it 2-0 and put Manchester United in a commanding position.

At that point, it looked like Michael Carrick’s side were heading comfortably into the next round. The match carried on looking calm as the home team were in no rush.

Brighton, however, refused to give up despite seeing themselves concede two goals very early. The visitors found a way back into the contest through Charalampos Kostoulas.

The striker scored in the additional time of the first half to reduce the deficit 2-1 and give Brighton renewed hope. His goal changed the momentum of the game before they headed for the break.

The Seagulls continued to push forward and were rewarded with an equalizer from Pascal Gross which came in the 65th minute of the encounter between both teams.

Brighton’s pressure finally paid off as they leveled the score at 2-2, leaving Manchester United stunned after their strong start to the match.

The visitors controlled large parts of the second half and looked the more dangerous team as the game entered its final stages.

Brighton completed the comeback when Maxim De Cuyper scored the winning goal in the 69th minute. His strike made it 3-2 and silenced the Old Trafford crowd.

The red devils tried to find a late response, but the Seagulls defended well and held on to secure a memorable victory away from home. The match ended with Brighton claiming a 3-2 victory against Manchester United.

The defeat was a painful one for Michael Carrick and his players, because they had been in complete control after taking a two-goal lead.

The loss also ended a remarkable record, as United had not previously lost at Old Trafford after leading by two goals at halftime for several decades.

For Brighton, it is a massive victory as they once again showed their fighting spirit and attacking quality. Fabian Hurzeler’s side showed great character to recover from a difficult start and eliminate one of England’s biggest clubs.

The comeback will be remembered as one of their finest cup victories in recent years. The Old Trafford club will now focus on improving their performances ahead of upcoming Premier League fixtures.

While, the Seagulls move forward with confidence after a famous 3-2 triumph at Old Trafford. Brighton and Hove Albion proved so much in turning a two-goal deficit into a memorable victory and a place in the next round of the Carabao Cup.
