Real Madrid Improve Vinicius Junior Contract Offer Amid Arsenal Interest

Real Madrid have reportedly taken a significant step towards keeping Vinicius Junior at the Santiago Bernabéu by submitting an improved contract offer after fresh talks with the Brazilian’s representatives.

The winger’s future has remained one of the biggest talking points in Madrid for more than a year, with negotiations dragging on since early 2025 due to differences over salary demands.

Although both parties consistently expressed their desire to continue together, neither side had been willing to compromise enough to reach an agreement.

That stance now appears to have changed.

According to reports from The Athletic, Real Madrid held fresh discussions with Vinicius’ camp on Wednesday, involving general director José Ángel Sánchez and chief scout Juni Calafat. The meeting reportedly resulted in Los Blancos presenting an improved proposal in a bid to finally break the deadlock.

While the exact figures have not been disclosed, ESPN claims the revised package includes a higher basic salary alongside improved performance-related bonuses. Meanwhile, BBC Sport reports that the club expects a response from Vinicius “within hours rather than days,” suggesting negotiations have reached a decisive stage.

The 26-year-old remains under contract until the end of next season, but Real Madrid have been eager to avoid entering the final year of his deal without clarity over his future.

Previous reports suggested Vinicius was seeking a salary close to €30 million per year, a figure Real Madrid were reluctant to approve because of the impact it could have on future contract negotiations with stars such as Jude Bellingham and others.

Despite previously standing firm, the club appears to have softened its position as interest from Arsenal intensified in recent weeks. Although a move to North London has always been viewed as unlikely, the Premier League side’s reported admiration for the Brazilian may have encouraged Madrid to accelerate negotiations.

The timing is particularly notable given Real Madrid’s massive spending during the summer transfer window. The club has already strengthened its squad with several high-profile arrivals while also reportedly agreeing a deal worth up to €140 million for highly-rated youngster Yan Diomande.

Club president Florentino Pérez has built a reputation for refusing to bow to player demands, having previously allowed legends such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, Mesut Özil and Luka Modrić to leave rather than compromise on contract negotiations.

That history made Vinicius’ situation appear no different, but the latest developments suggest Real Madrid have decided their star forward is worth making an exception for.

If both parties can now reach a final agreement, Wednesday’s meeting could be remembered as the breakthrough that secured the long-term future of one of football’s brightest stars.

Failure to do so, however, would leave fresh uncertainty over the future of one of the club’s most influential players, with Europe’s biggest clubs continuing to monitor the situation closely.
