Manchester City have reached an agreement to sign experienced Argentine goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli from French club Marseille this summer window.

The Premier League champions are moving quickly to strengthen their goalkeeping department ahead of the new season, with Rulli expected to arrive as an experienced backup option.

Reports indicate that both clubs have agreed on the transfer, while the player has also accepted the move. Fabrizio Romano confirmed the move saying: “Geronimo Rulli to Manchester City, here we go! Deal closed now between clubs with Olympique Marseille.

“Rulli will sign a two year deal until June 2028 plus option until June 2029.

“Gero, authorized to fly for medical at Manchester City. Exclusive story from last week, confirmed.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper brings a wealth of experience to Manchester City. Rulli has played for clubs such as Estudiantes, Real Sociedad, Montpellier, Villarreal, Ajax, and Marseille during his career.

He was also part of the Argentina squad that won the 2022 FIFA World Cup, adding valuable international experience to his impressive career. City’s decision to sign Rulli comes after changes in the club’s goalkeeping department.

The club has been looking for a reliable and experienced goalkeeper who can provide strong competition and dependable cover after James Trafford left.

Rulli’s leadership, calm presence, and ability to perform under pressure make him an ideal choice for the role. Although he is not expected to become the first-choice goalkeeper immediately.

His experience will be valuable in domestic cup competitions and whenever he is called upon. His excellent shot-stopping ability, composure with the ball at his feet, and understanding of high-level football fit well with City’s style of play.

The transfer also marks a return to Manchester City for Rulli. In 2016, City signed him before immediately loaning him back to Real Sociedad, and he never made a competitive appearance for the club.

A decade later, he is now set to finally become part of the first-team squad if the final paperwork is completed. Adding an experienced goalkeeper like Geronimo Rulli is another smart move as they prepare for another demanding campaign in England and Europe.

His winning mentality, experience in top leagues, and international success could prove important over a long season.

The transfer is expected to be completed soon, with an official announcement likely once the remaining formalities, including medical checks and contract signing, are finalized.

Manchester City fans will hope Rulli’s arrival adds more quality and depth as the club aims to compete for every major trophy once again.
