Galatasaray Confirm Victor Osimhen’s Injury After Win Over Sivasspor

Galatasaray have provided an update on Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen’s injury sustained during their dramatic 3-2 victory over Sivasspor in the Süper Lig on Sunday, MySportDab reports.

The in-form forward, who found the net during the match, was forced off in the 76th minute and replaced by Victor Nelsson after appearing to pull up with discomfort.

Medical examinations have since revealed that Osimhen, 25, suffered a moderate strain and bleeding in his right upper back muscle. While the club confirmed that treatment has already begun, they did not provide a specific timeline for his recovery.

His absence is a significant setback for Galatasaray, especially as the team is already dealing with the long-term loss of Argentine striker Mauro Icardi due to an Achilles injury.

Osimhen’s injury leaves coach Okan Buruk with limited attacking options as the club aims to sustain their title defense and advance in the UEFA Europa League. Belgian forward Michy Batshuayi is expected to step up in the interim and lead the attack.

Despite their injury concerns, Galatasaray remain in a strong position domestically, holding a six-point lead over second-placed Fenerbahçe in the Süper Lig standings.

Their win over Sivasspor showcased their resilience, with crucial goals from Osimhen, Dries Mertens, and Lucas Torreira.

The Turkish champions also have their sights set on European glory, with the UEFA Europa League round of 16 within reach. However, the loss of Osimhen could complicate their campaign as they look to balance their ambitions on both fronts.
