Liverpool officially confirms the signing of Ronald Araujo who completes a move from Barcelona this summer window for the duration of the 2026/2027 season on loan.
The move came as a shocker to many who never believed the Spanish club were looking to allow the defender leave either on loan or a permanent deal.
Liverpool were given the opportunity to sign the defender in what they were quick to push forward despite the nature of the deal which wasn’t going to be a permanent one.
Ronald Araujo was reported to have been going through so much which led to Barcelona allowing the player to take some time off before returning back.
This summer window, the player decided on opting for a move elsewhere to re-establish himself. It was a decision he felt needed to happen for his own sake.
The defender had once been linked with a move to Chelsea, but nothing happened despite reports of talks also taking place between all parties involved.
It was also claimed that Barcelona were not open to allowing the player go because he was of great importance to their current team and the future.
However, it seems the decision has changed and Liverpool were able to strike a deal to sign the defender who will spend the whole season on loan.
The official announcement was made today after the player signed his contract which makes him a Liverpool player until the season comes to an end.
“I can’t wait to get started. I’m very, very happy,” 27-year-old Araujo said.
“I’m excited to be here at this massive club with lots of history.
“I’m excited to meet my teammates, excited to get started playing, and I’m very motivated and really up for getting going.
“I think it was the ideal move for me at this stage in my career. I think it was a move that was necessary for me to take.
“As soon as I heard that interest from Liverpool, everything went into action really, really quickly.
“As I say, I’m super-happy to be here and excited to get started.
“I’m glad about the interest and it was the right move at the right time.”
The defender is pleased to have completed the move to the Premier League after several attempts with Chelsea wanting to sign him.
Ronald Araujo will wear the number 33 shirt for the new season which he is expected to play a big role that will also allow senior players like Virgil van Dijk to rest.
