Champions Arsenal continued their strong start to the 2026/27 Premier League season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park.
A second-half goal from Bukayo Saka proved enough to separate the two sides as Mikel Arteta’s men claimed all three points and maintained their perfect start to the new campaign.
The match was expected to be a difficult test for the Champions, especially away from home against an Aston Villa side managed by former Gunners boss Unai Emery.
Villa were looking to bounce back from their disappointing defeat in their previous league outing, while Arsenal arrived full of confidence after opening the season with a convincing win.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 59th minute. Gabriel started the move before Eberechi Eze helped work the ball into a dangerous area which caused the whole thing.
Riccardo Calafiori then delivered a low cross into the box, where Bukayo Saka arrived at the perfect moment to finish from close range and give Arsenal a deserved 1-0 lead.
The goal in the 59th minute silenced the home crowd and rewarded the vistors for their dominance during the second half. Villa attempted to respond and pushed more players forward in the closing stages.
Emery introduced fresh legs from the bench, including Alejandro Garnacho and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, as the home side searched for an equaliser.
Despite their efforts, Villa struggled to create meaningful chances against Arsenal’s organised defence. In fact, the hosts failed to register a shot on target throughout the match.
Arteta’s substitutions also made a positive impact. Eberechi Eze looked lively after coming on, while Bruno Guimaraes made his Premier League debut for Arsenal.
The visitors managed the final minutes professionally, frustrating Villa and protecting their narrow advantage until the final whistle.
The 1-0 result moves Arsenal further up the Premier League table and keeps their 100 percent record intact after two matches.
The defending champions once again showed their ability to win difficult games even when they are not at their attacking best. For the home side, it was another frustrating evening as they suffered a second consecutive league defeat and continued to search for their first goal of the season.
Ultimately, Bukayo Saka’s clinical finish was the difference between the two sides. Arsenal left Villa Park with a valuable three points, while Aston Villa were left to reflect on another missed opportunity as they continue their to struggle under Unai Emery.
