While fortune played a part in the goal, Ngumoha deserved his reward after another energetic performance filled with confidence, pace and attacking intent.

Following the goal, the Premier League side managed the closing stages well, controlling possession and limiting Wrexham’s opportunities. Goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and Liverpool’s young defenders remained composed, ensuring the Reds finished the match with another clean sheet.

The defensive display will certainly please Iraola as he continues to implement his tactical ideas ahead of the new campaign. Although the fixture lacked the intensity of a competitive league encounter, it successfully fulfilled its purpose as a developmental exercise.

Liverpool were able to hand meaningful minutes to several promising youngsters while maintaining their winning momentum during pre-season under new manager.

Players such as Ngumoha, Abe, Trey Nyoni and other academy graduates continue to strengthen their cases for increased involvement with the senior squad in the months ahead.

Wrexham had plenty of positives despite the defeat. The Welsh club demonstrated resilience, discipline and attacking ambition against elite opposition.
