Alejandro Garnacho has completed his long awaited move to Premier League side Aston Villa after just playing one season with World Champions, Chelsea during the 2025/26 campaign.
Following days of intense negotiations, both clubs finalized an agreement that sends the Argentina international to Villa Park on an initial season-long loan with a conditional obligation to buy.
The arrangement brings an end to a brief, difficult spell in West London for the 22-year-old attacker, who struggled to nail down a consistent starting role under the Stamford Bridge hierarchy after arriving from Manchester United.
Under the terms agreed between the two Premier League sides, Aston Villa will take the player on loan for the 2026–27 campaign. Crucially, the package includes a conditional permanent purchase clause expected to total around £43 million.
Reports indicate that the metrics required to trigger this obligation are easily attainable, effectively making the transition a long-term investment. Once these performance or appearance conditions are fulfilled, Garnacho is set to put pen to paper on a four-year contract in Birmingham.
The timing of this transfer is closely tied to another high-profile piece of business conducted between the two clubs. Just prior to this agreement, Chelsea completed a British-record £117 million deal to bring Morgan Rogers to Stamford Bridge.
Because both institutions remain under the close scrutiny of UEFA’s financial sustainability regulations and historical settlement agreements, structuring the transaction as an initial loan helped navigate strict rules regarding quick player-swap evaluations.
By utilizing a conditional loan structure, Aston Villa can cleanly manage their accounting timelines while protecting the full profit margins generated from the Rogers sale.
For Villa manager Unai Emery, landing Garnacho represents the realization of a long-term transfer ambition. He confirmed saying: “We are delighted with Alejandro.
“He is so talented, young and he showed us his wish to help our project. We are really happy.”
The Spanish tactician had previously pursued the forward prior to his initial move to Stamford Bridge and personally drove the recruitment effort this summer.
