For Calum MacFarlane, this was a moral victory. Ending a six-game losing streak at Anfield is no small feat, especially with a depleted squad missing stars like Pedro Neto and Estevão Willian.
The defensive resilience shown by Levi Colwill and Jorrel Hato in the closing stages suggested a team finally rediscovering its spine.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot, however, will be frustrated. Despite the dominance of Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister, the Reds defending on the set-piece and failure to convert clear-cut chances could prove costly in the race for Champions League football.
Marc Cucurella had so much to say concerning Chelsea’s performance which claimed to be good and top quality.
Cucurella said: “I think the effort today was really good. I don’t think it was probably our best moments, but we showed if we play together and if we play together then we have a good level.
“Hopefully we can win a bit of confidence from this game because next week we have a massive game.
“We aren’t happy because we wanted the three points, but we are happy that we showed we’re a really good team if we put in the effort and fight together.
“Hopefully we can learn from this game and play well in these last few games.”
As the season enters its final fortnight, Liverpool must find their clinical edge, while Chelsea will hope this point acts as the foundation for a much-needed rebuild.
