Major Setback: Estêvão World Cup Hopes Under Threat

Chelsea youngster Estêvão faces a tough challenge of recovery from the injury sustained during the defeat against Manchester United on Saturday evening.

It was earlier confirmed that the youngster has suffered a grade four hamstring injury, which would make it unlikely for him to feature at the upcoming World Cup.

The tournament is expected to kick off on June 11, with Brazil’s opening match coming up a few days later against Morocco.

However, it was confirmed that a scan will be carried out on the player before knowing the full extent of damage that was sustained during the game.

The medical scan was reportedly held on Monday afternoon, as there was a growing fear among those in charge, knowing how the season is going for Chelsea.

Estêvão Willian sustained the injury during the 1-0 defeat against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Brazilian limped off in the 16th minute of play. Liam Rosenior later confirmed the player was seen in tears inside the dressing room.

While there are so many talks going on right now, the injury might likely bring the player’s debut season to an end.

Chelsea made the move to keep the player with them this season after signing him years ago from Palmeiras as a 17-year-old who was unable to make the move immediately.

So far, Estêvão has appeared in 36 games, scoring just eight goals and providing four assists. Three of his goals came in seven UEFA Champions League games.

Meanwhile, after recent discoveries, the initial 15 to 20-day recovery timeline might not be enough to see the player return to the pitch.

His chances of playing for Brazil at the World Cup in the United States are also in doubt following recent discoveries.

Reports coming from The Athletic confirm things are not looking so great despite the initial thought of the player returning to action within a short period of time.

Estêvão Willian’s season might have come to an end with this injury, despite Chelsea still having more games to play both in the Premier League and the FA Cup.

An important fixture against Leeds United is coming up, while there are growing concerns about Liam Rosenior being sacked as Chelsea’s head coach.

For now, the Brazilian is expected to commence his recovery and hopes to beat the odds against him not making it to the World Cup this year.

Estêvão missing the World Cup would be devastating, knowing that it has been his dream as a player to represent his country and go on to win trophies.
