Kylian Mbappé has revealed his growing disillusionment with modern football, admitting that only his deep-rooted love for the game prevents him from turning his back on the sport altogether, MySportDab Reports.
The 26-year-old Real Madrid forward, who has been in the global spotlight since his teenage breakthrough at Monaco, confessed that the realities behind the scenes of professional football often leave him with a sense of “disgust.”
“I’m fatalistic about what the world of football is, but not about what life is,” Mbappé told L’Équipe. “Life is magnificent. Football is what it is.
“People who go to the stadium are lucky enough to just watch a show without knowing what goes on behind the curtain. Honestly, if I didn’t have this passion, football would have disgusted me a long time ago.”
The France international, who has already claimed multiple league titles, a World Cup, and countless individual honors, admitted that fame has also complicated his personal life. “The more money you have, the more problems you have,” he reflected. “Some people want to keep seeing you as the same child they once knew. But you’ve changed — you have responsibilities, commitments, a job, and accountability.”
Asked how he would react if his children grew up uninterested in football, Mbappé laughed before giving a candid response: “I hope so. Unfortunately, though, a ball will never be far away. But I’d never encourage my child to get involved in this world.”
The striker acknowledged that navigating relationships has been one of his greatest challenges, as it is often difficult to determine people’s true intentions. “You ask yourself: ‘Why is he telling me that? What does he want from me?’ The line between being careful and being paranoid is very thin. Sometimes people think players are crazy, but really they’ve just had too many bad experiences.”
Despite the darker side of football, Mbappé insisted that his passion remains intact, serving as both his shield and his motivation. It is that very passion, he says, that continues to drive him forward as one of the game’s biggest stars.
