Lando Norris claimed a dramatic victory at the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday, edging out McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri by just 0.698 seconds in a tense finish at the Hungaroring, MySportDab Reports.
The Briton’s strategic switch from a two-stop to a one-stop race proved decisive, as he held off a late charge from the championship leader to secure his fifth win of the season and the ninth of his Formula 1 career.
The result cuts Piastri’s lead in the drivers’ standings to just nine points and delivers McLaren their 200th win in Formula 1 and a record 13th Hungarian Grand Prix victory.
It also marks the team’s fourth consecutive 1-2 finish, underlining their dominance in the second half of the season.
“I wasn’t planning to do a one-stop, but it was the only way back,” Norris said. “Oscar kept me honest.”
Piastri, on fresher tyres after a second stop, pushed hard in the closing laps but couldn’t find a way past. “Lando did a great job,” he admitted.
George Russell finished third for Mercedes, with pole-sitter Charles Leclerc a frustrated fourth after strategic errors from Ferrari once again hampered his race.
Leclerc had led early but was undone by mistimed pit calls and ultimately overtaken by both McLarens and Russell.
Fernando Alonso claimed fifth for Aston Martin ahead of rookie Gabriel Bortoleto (Sauber), Lance Stroll (Aston Martin), and Liam Lawson (Racing Bulls).
Max Verstappen could only manage ninth, continuing his struggles in 2025, while Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli took the final point in tenth.
Lewis Hamilton finished a disappointing 12th in the second Ferrari, capping off a difficult weekend in Budapest.
Despite late drama, Norris held firm for a crucial win in one of the most thrilling races of the season.
