Arsenal have secured one of their biggest signing this summer, poaching Swedish attacking sensation Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon, MySportDab reports.
According to football journalist Buchi Laba, the Gunners have reached agreement with Sporting Lisbon for Gyokeres with only the player’s medical left in the signing ritual.
Details of Arsenal’s agreement with Sporting showed the Premier League club will pay £56m as transfer fee and £13m as add-ons.
This takes Gyokeres transfer fee to roughly £70m falling within the ballpark value of what Sporting wanted for the player.
Meanwhile, we reported earlier that Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Gyokeres, offering the 27-year-old a five-year contract till 2030.
With personal and club terms settled, Gyokeres is now expected to travel to London for his medical and then official signing of contract and announcement by the club will follow.
The Sporting talisman will become Arsenal’s fourth signing this summer, joining Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, and Kepa Arrizabalaga who have all joined the London club this summer.
He will become Mikel Arteta’s first traditional number nine to join Arsenal after Pierre-Emerick Aubamenyang and Alexander Lacazatte left.
Gyokeres had 39 league goals in 33 appearances for Sporting in the just-concluded season, finishing as the highest goal scorer in Europe’s top five leagues.
He is regarded as one of the best forwards in Europe and is renowned for his lethal finishing and attacking prowess.
Arsenal’s domestic league rivals Manchester United were also in the race for him, but they have now been beaten by a resolute Gunners intent on arresting the numb in their attack for next season.
