Real Madrid continued their perfect start to the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League campaign with a convincing 4-1 win over RB Leipzig at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Goals from Bernardo Silva, Arda Güler, Kylian Mbappe and Yan Diomande gave the Spanish giants their third straight victory in the competition, while Tidiam Gomis scored Leipzig’s only goal.
Both teams started the match with attacking intent, but RB Leipzig created some early problems for the home side. Real Madrid gradually took control and began to put pressure on the visitors’ defence.

The visitors came close to opening the scoring in the 28th minute when Rômulo found space inside the penalty area. However, Thibaut Courtois made an important save to keep the score level.
The host responded almost immediately as Vinicius Junior cut inside and fired towards goal, but the goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt produced a fine save to deny the Brazilian forward.
Courtois was called into action again in the 41st minute when Christopher Nkunku went through on goal. The Belgian goalkeeper stood firm and made another crucial stop.
The host finally broke the deadlock in the 44th minute. Federico Valverde played the ball back into the attacking area, allowing Arda Güler to take a strike on goal.
Vandevoordt stopped the initial effort, but Bernardo Silva reacted quickly to collect the rebound and put the ball into the net for the lead.
The goal gave Jose Mourinho and his side a 1-0 lead at half-time after a competitive first period. Real Madrid started the second half strongly and nearly scored again in the 47th minute.
Federico Valverde fired from inside the penalty area, but Vandevoordt made another save which helped the visitors remain in the game with a fighting chance.
The hosts doubled their advantage in the 52nd minute. Jude Bellingham delivered a cross into the box, and Kylian Mbappe directed a header towards goal.
Guler got the final touch on the goal-bound ball, sending it over the line to make it 2-0 as play continued between both teams for the night.
Leipzig tried to respond, but Real Madrid continued to create dangerous chances. Vinicius looked lively in attack, although he could not add his name to the scoresheet.
Mbappe then produced one of the best moments of the match. In the 83rd minute, the French forward received the ball near the edge of the penalty area and fired a powerful right-footed shot into the far corner.
His excellent finish made it 3-0 and appeared to put the game beyond Leipzig with more time left to play. The away side refused to give up and pulled a goal back in the 85th minute.

Tidiam Gomis took advantage of space in Real Madrid’s defence, moved towards goal and finished past Courtois to make it 3-1. However, Madrid quickly restored their three-goal advantage.
In the 87th minute, Brahim Diaz set up Yan Diomande, who struck a superb first-time volley into the top corner. The finish sealed a memorable 4-1 victory for Real Madrid against RB Leipzig.
The match featured several important saves and missed opportunities. Romulo and Nkunku were denied by Courtois, while Vinicius and Valverde also had efforts stopped by Vandevoordt.
Real Madrid made changes in the second half, with Diomande and Marc Cucurella coming on in the 70th minute. Brahim Diaz replaced Guler in the 78th minute, while Carlos Espi and Endrick later entered the match.
RB Leipzig also introduced fresh players, including Gomis, who made an immediate impact by scoring. Alvaro Carreras of Madrid and Rocco Reitz of Leipzig received yellow cards.
The 4-1 victory keeps Jose Mourinho and his team on course for another strong Champions League campaign. Silva and Guler provided important contributions, Mbappe delivered a brilliant finish, and Diomande capped the performance with a stunning volley.
Real Madrid will now turn their attention to Sunday’s El Clásico against Barcelona, while Leipzig must work on their defensive weaknesses ahead of their next League and European fixture.
