Nigerian and Super Eagles attacking sensation Victor Boniface could be back to action with Bayer Leverkusen sooner than expected, MySportDab reports.

The 22-year-old former Union Saint-Gilloise striker has been on the sidelines since January after he picked up an adductor muscle injury while in the Super Eagles 2023 AFCON preparatory camp in Abu Dhabi.

In a big blow to his international career, the fast-rising football striker missed out on a chance to represent Nigeria in the continental footballing showpiece and was also crippled from action for Bayer Leverkusen.

After a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed he is back to grass but is yet to recover fully, hence he remains frozen from action pending when he will be cleared by the club’s medical unit to play.

Boniface led the strike force for Bayer Leverkusen before going down the wire with the injury blow. He contributed 24 goals for the club, consisting of 16 goals and 8 assists to lend his quota to the team’s push for a first-ever Bundesliga title.

While his absence due to injury must have been a big loss to Bayer Leverkusen, Xabi Alonso seems to have restructured his attacking setup to make light of the absence of the Nigeria international.

Bayer Leverkusen are still pushing for their first Bundesliga title and have maintained their record-extending unbeaten run in all competitions this season.

Nevertheless, the return of Victor Boniface will be a big boost to the team as they prepare for the crucial stages of all three competitions – the German Cup, Bundesliga, and Europa League.

According to Xabi Alonso, as reported by Complete Sports, Victor Boniface could be ready for action for the club against Hoffenheim on March 30 or against Fortuna Dusseldorf on April 3.
