Even though Manchester City and Liverpool both won over the weekend, the Gunners may still keep their championship hopes alive with a victory.

Martin Odegaard broke a deadlock in Bramall Lane’s first five minutes of play. Just before the half-hour mark, Mikel Arteta’s team extended their advantage with an own goal by Jayden Bogle.

A few minutes after that, Gabriel Martinelli chipped in as well. Now that everything was open, Declan Rice and Kai Havertz had their names recorded on the scorecard.

It took almost fifteen minutes, but Ben White finally scored for Arsenal in the second half, doubling their advantage to six.

As bragging rights are on the line, we have compiled a list of the Premier League matches with the most total score.

Most Goals Scored In A Premier League Match

Most Goals Scored In A Premier League Match

Portsmouth 7-4 Reading – September 2007

Benjani scored Fratton Park’s first goal within the first ten minutes and then finished off his hat trick just after the hour.

With two goals scored in the last seconds of the game—one by the home team on a penalty and the other on an own goal—this match became the highest-scoring Premier League encounter ever.

Tottenham 6-4 Reading – December 2007

Reading was the victim of another thrashing a few months later. Though he scored four against the Royals, Dimitar Berbatov only managed fifteen goals throughout the 2007–08 Premier League season.

Tottenham 9-1 Wigan Athletic – November 2009

Once again, the Lilywhites unleashed the floodgates two years later. After leading the siege, Jermaine Defoe scored five goals against the Latics.

Manchester United 8-2 Arsenal – August 2011

It was a famous and unforgettable Premier League match. This game will go down in history because Wayne Rooney scored a hat trick, and Ashley Young increased his total for the day in stoppage time.

Arsenal 7-3 Newcastle United – December 2012

Even though the Gunners took a beating at Old Trafford, they came back a few months later and trashed their opponents.

Theo Walcott again scored three goals. In the last three minutes of the match, Olivier Giroud scored twice.

Manchester United 5-5 West Bromwich Albion – May 2013

This was Sir Alex Ferguson’s last game as manager of Manchester United. After a sure victory for the Scot, Romelu Lukaku scored three unanswered goals against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Arsenal 6-0 Sheffield United – March 2024

Amazingly, five players scored for Arsenal as they went into halftime, leading by five goals. The Gunners showed no signs of slowing down despite the overwhelming likelihood that goal differential will determine the Premier League champion.

The Numbers Behind Arsenal’s Incredible Start To 2024

The Numbers Behind Arsenal's Incredible Start To 2024

Since returning from the winter break, the Gunners have been unstoppable in 2024 league play, shattering records at every turn.

With seven victories in a row, Arteta’s squad is squarely back in the hunt for the championship. The way these wins are being delivered, however, is what has fans pumped up about this squad.

Arsenal have been cruising through the Premier League since the new year, obliterating their opponents. We examine the data that supports the Gunners’ scorching form.

Most Goals In 7 Consecutive Games In Premier League History

Most Goals In 7 Consecutive Games In Premier League History

Arsenal has scored 31 goals in their past seven games. They have scored 21 goals in their last four games.

The Gunners have scored five goals or more four times in their previous seven matches. During Arteta’s 154 Premier League games as manager, the North London club only managed four victories by scoring five goals or more.

In this streak, Arsenal have averaged 4.43 goals scored and 0.43 goals allowed per game. Under Arteta’s leadership, the Gunners have averaged 1.77gpg and allowed 1.10gpg in their previous 154 matches.

Most Arsenal Goals Scored After 27 Games Played In The Premier League

On Monday night, Arsenal smashed Sheffield United 6-0, setting a new record. With seven games in a row during this run, Arteta’s team now owns the record for any team’s most significant scoring run in Premier League history.

They were passing Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City from 2017–18, who scored 30 goals in only seven games, as the previous record holder.

In their past four Premier League matches, they have scored 21 goals, which is also a record for the tournament.

Stats Vs. “The Invincible” After 27 Games

Stats Vs. "The Invincible" After 27 Games

Arsenal made history when they won three straight-away games in the Premier League by five goals or more.

Gunners fans have started singing, “Stadiums are empty everywhere we go.” Dismantling teams is beginning to seem like second nature.

Not only does Arsenal lead the Premier League in goals scored, but they also lead the league in goals allowed.

There has never been a season in which Arsenal scored more than their 68 goals after 27 games. At this point in the season, Arteta’s squad has scored fifteen more goals than the so-called “invincibles” squad from 2003–04.

Highest Number Of Different Scorers

Goals are popping up from everywhere on the field. At least eleven players scored for Arsenal during this run of form.

There has yet to be a Premier League club with more different scorers in the same time frame. During that period, Liverpool scored ten goals from other players, while Man City scored four goals from different players.

The Gunners have had scorers among Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Ødegaard, Kai Havertz, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Jesus, Declan Rice, Ben White, Jakub Kiwior, Gabriel, and Willam Saliba. There have been fifteen scorers for Arsenal in the Premier League all season.

Second Most League Goals Scored In Europe Top 5 League

Only Inter Milan can match Arsenal’s goal-scoring form among the elite clubs in Europe’s top five divisions. While Arsenal managed 68 goals, the Italian powerhouses managed 69.

Arteta would trade all these records if it meant they could win the Premier League in May, even though it’s still early in the season, and no trophies have been won.

They have a real shot of unseating Liverpool and Manchester City and winning the championship for the first time in 20 years if they can keep up their current form.

Twenty years after the notorious invincibles, Arsenal is once again a formidable opponent.
