Nigeria Climb 14 Places Up On FIFA Ranking

Nigeria have moved up 14 places on the latest FIFA Ranking released on the club’s website today, MySportDab reports.

The Super Eagles reached their 8th AFCON final – the most by any African team but finished as runners-up, losing to tournament’s host Ivory Coast.

Following the stellar 2023 AFCON campaign, FIFA latest rankings has seen the Super Eagles move up 14 places in one of their biggest rise on the rankings. They are now sitting 28th on the global ranking and 3rd on the African rankings.

The Super Eagles entered 2023 AFCON tournament with 1474 points on the FIFA ladder but has now acquired 48 points more to raked in 1572 points step up their ranking.

Surprisingly, Senegal and Egypt still retain their spot as the highest-ranked African team on the global scale and also keeping their spot as the best two teams in Africa in the number one and number two spots, respectively.

Globally, Senegal is 12th on the log with 1663 points while the second highest-ranked African team Morocco are 17th in the world with 1620 points.

Ivory Coast, who won 2023 AFCON could only manage 10 places up on the ranking, moving from 49 to 39.

AFCON’s second runners-up, South Africa climbed 8 spots to 58th, with Egypt (36th), Cameroon (51st) & Ghana (67th) dropping down after their early AFCON 2023 exits.

The Angolan side who were ousted in the last eight (93rd, up 24), are the biggest climbers in the latest instalment of the global ranking.

Other impressive performers are Equatorial Guinea (79th, up 9), South Africa (58th, up 8), Cabo Verde (65th, up 8), Namibia (107th, up 8) and Mali (47th, up 4).
