DR Congo stunned the National Elephants of Guinea to make history in 2023 AFCON, MySportDab reports.

It was a cracker as the two teams crossed swords in a heated AFCON Quarterfinal clash. Guinea were tipped to carry the day having pulled up surprises in the group stage of the tournament to qualify for the knockout. But it was still a dicey affair against the Leopards of DR Congo who have been sensational through the tournament.

The game started with a blast. DR Congo found themselves trailing 20 minutes into the first half. They conceded a cheap penalty which was perfectly converted by Bayo to give Guinea the lead.

In the 27th minute, DR Congo fought back to nail home the equaliser after a brilliant attacking effort.

The first half ended in a draw setting the stage for an action-packed second half as the two teams brace for the challenge to reach the last four.

Guinea were on the ascendancy in the second half as they did in the first. They dominated possession, completed more passes, and had more touches in DR Congo’s half.

However, it was still a deadlock as they could not add to the tally. Meanwhile, DR Congo were upbeat with promising offensives despite having limited control of proceedings in the game.

After the hour mark, Guinea conceded a penalty and DR Congo converted it to take the lead against the run of play.

The goal set the game ablaze as Guinea ramped up attacking efforts pushing for an equaliser. In the 82nd minute, DR Congo scraped pass Guinea’s dominant display to extend the lead, thanks to Masuaku’s goal.

With 8 minutes left, DR Congo held on to run out with a 3-1 victory after the final whistle to qualify for the semifinals of the competition.
